Boys...boys...boys

Boys will be boys and our two little rascals have already started horsing around. They had a wrestling match today and I had to capture it on camera. They were rolling and punching (all in good fun of course). They really had a good time even though it made me nervous to watch. I have to remember that this is a "normal" thing and well...get used to it.

Beach Bums

We went to the beach today for one last day of summer before school starts for Mike and Tai. We loaded up and headed down to Galveston for the day. The boys were having a blast feeding the sea gulls. Austin was trying to catch one as they swooped down for a bite of the bread. Jacob didn't really know what to think of it, but watched intensely. Austin made a sand castle too, with the help of mama. There was a lot of sea weed on the beach and Austin had a good time looking through it searching for crabs. Boys will be boys!

Socks

Austin has been practicing putting on his own socks and shoes. He gets frustrated when he can't get it over his big toe (which I think is cute). It is work in progress for him and he will keep on trying!

More Monkeys

We went to Monkey-N-Around again today for another play date with our group. The boys had a blast (as always). But...there was another toddler there who had a runny nose. Low and behold what do you know...my kids are now sick. That's one of the reasons why we pulled Austin out of pre-school in June - due to the kids all sharing germs and bringing it home to my newborn getting everyone sick. Oh well...it's going to happen, you can't keep them in a plastic bubble forever...although that would be nice! ;)

New Job?

Today David got an intriguing job offer from Weatherford as a design drill engineer. He would be designing drills that go aboard oil rigs. Once he designed the product he would take it out to the rig itself and test the drill. This would include traveling to places such as Russia, Scotland, South America, Iceland, and Dubai (yes wives can go too!). He had been interested in their company awhile back (before he received his PE license). They offered him a competitive salary and overall good benefits, but we would have to move to the other side of town near 290 and Beltway 8 (where their office is located). We did the math and it made financial sense to remain here at our current location and David stay at Carter and Burgess - which has been a good company allowing David to grow professionally. We still are trying to decide if we want to build in Lakeshore next year when the section we want opens up. Maybe we'll re-evaluate things then. It was an honor though having Weatherford offer this great opportunity to David wanting him to be a part of their team!

Crawling

Jakers finally decided to crawl forward today!! Yay! He has been able to crawl backward for quite some time, but this evening he took his first moves forward - screaming the whole way in excitement!! What a cutie!

Children's Museum

Today I took the little munchkins to the Children's Museum here in Houston. Even with all the craziness it was a fun adventure! Austin had a great time venturing about and finding new discoveries. There was an area of a travel theme where they had an old Van. He did not want to get out of the van! He insisted on driving and would have gone all the way to Mexico if given the chance. Jacob had a good time playing with his buddies from our play group. It was a nice break from our usual routine!

Two Front Teeth

Jacob now has 4 teeth as his top two teeth popped through today - finally! My poor baby has had a rough time with these top two teeth, but it seems as though the pressure is relieved since they made their way through. Whew!

Family Portraits

Back in May we went to our family photographer to get our family pictures taken - of course before I went into the photography business. We waited 3 full months and they finally came in! I am very pleased with how they turned out, but a little disappointed in the time it took to get them done and the price it cost me. I know she is extremely busy with a huge successful booming business, but I know I could have had them back within 3-4 weeks max. Plus I could have done it in a third of the cost myself, but that's what happens when you are one of the biggest photographers in south east Houston. You have that right to charge an arm and leg! For our Christmas family portraits we will be venturing into the world of the self timer. I hope to get some good ones and that should be a fun stressful activity!

Family Beach Day

We took the kiddos to the beach today. We decided to wait until the evening when it wasn't as brutal outside with the heat and humidity. The surf was extremely calm and quiet, which was nice and relaxing. Austin had a great time splashing around and chasing the sea gulls. This was Jacob's first beach trip and stared in awe at the surf. He was very relaxed and played in the sand the entire time. I think Austin is the beach babe and Jacob is the beach bum! :)

The Windy City

We took a 4 day adventure up to the great Windy City to visit some friends of ours. Neither David nor I had been there and we both fell in love! If it weren't for the extreme winters we would be there in a heartbeat looking for houses. It has so much to offer for a growing family and such beautiful scenery. We loved riding the El...hopping from train to train not knowing where we were going! lol The Hancock Obs was an exhilarating experience. I am the type who doesn't care for heights, but this was worth the trip up the never ending elevator. The view was amazing...absolutely amazing. You could see 4 states from the top. Worth the fear for me! We also went to the Shedd Aquarium, Navy Pier, Lalapoolza, a boat ride on Lake Michigan, and toured all through downtown (Magnificent Mile, etc). My friend, who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis last year, was such a trooper. Even with her not feeling her best and going through treatment, she still was the best host anyone could ask for. I really appreciate her hospitality in showing off her city for us Houstonians. I wish I could be there for her more during this hard time in her life, but we will be back to visit her in no time. We love the city and her family way too much to stay away!
